This month, I am over the moon excited to feature ELSHE JEWELRY! ELSHE (L – she) is a company very dear to me, because it was created by a good friend of mine a fellow boss babe who inspires me on a daily basis, Paulette Zouein (also known as P). Paulette is an extroverted introvert who pursued her dreams of entrepreneurship and created a sustainable business doing meaningful work she loves.
ELSHE jewels are mindfully handcrafted for the minimalist babe … the effortless girl who appreciates fewer. better. things.
Read on below for the full feature on ELSHE and how you can purchase jewels locally handcrafted with mad love!
Tell me about the fabulous lady boss behind ELSHE. Who is Paulette?
>>I’m just an ordinary girl living life day to day. I’m obsessed with / freaked out by the moon and how big the universe is … It reminds me that there is something way bigger than myself … It keeps me in check and reminds me not to always take things too seriously. I make a daily effort to acknowledge the things I am grateful for in my life, but the truth is … it isn’t always easy. I have days when I beat myself up + think that what I’m doing isn’t enough. Then I have days where things feel like they are working in perfect harmony and everything makes complete sense. I think of myself as an extroverted introvert and I’m a sucker for all things yoga related. I make a constant effort to stay active and eat healthy … but I’d secretly rather splurge every day of the week! My weekends usually consist of drinking hoppy beers, good eats + spending as much time as possible with family and friends.
Tell me more about ELSHE… the brand, history, meaning behind it?
>>ELSHE (L-she) originated from the Arabic word “aalshi” (uh-elle-she) meaning “minimal” or “least amount”. I grew up with a solid Lebanese background and travel back to Lebanon regularly to spend time with family. It is a huge part of who I am and how I grew up- so extending those roots into my business was a no brainer!
What inspired you to start your business?
>> After graduating college I got my real estate license and transitioned into a career in commercial real estate working for my dad as his right hand. I have enjoyed the unpredictability of my day to day work and gained so much real business experience. My dad is the greatest mentor and business man I know so having the opportunity to grow and learn from him has me forever grateful. That being said, real estate just isn’t my passion and I have always felt that void. I finally came to terms with this and decided it was time to figure out how I was going to get my own two feet grounded + start a business of my own. In all honesty, I always knew I wanted to start my own business, I just didn’t know what type of business it would be or what that meant for me. I was excited about the possibilities but was having a hard time figuring out how to create a sustainable business doing something I love while giving it meaning. After much soul searching and with a life long passion for all things creative … a little determination (and a lot of guts!) … ELSHE Jewelry was born!
Describe your product…
>> I would describe my jewelry the same way I would describe my own personal style. Effortless meets edgy with a hint of tomboyish femme. I don’t like having to think too much about what I’m wearing but that definitely does not mean that I have to sacrifice style for functionality. I am forever in pursuit of pieces I absolutely love and can constantly rotate through my wardrobe. Finding a few quality pieces that I can mix and match, dress up, dress down, it makes getting dressed much more enjoyable and gives me more time to do the things I love. My jewelry is designed with that same philosophy in mind. Simple pieces that stand out subtly. They compliment any outfit from that cut out muscle tank you quickly throw on as you run out the door to that fun flowy top you wear to a night out on the town.
What is your vision + mission?
>>I hope to show women that you don’t need a lot to look good, feel great and keep things fresh. In the past I had an unhealthy love hate relationship with shopping. I was always in pursuit of the next best thing and would somehow still find myself with a closet full of nothing to wear. It wasn’t until I slowed down and started being more mindful of the things I was collecting that I realized I don’t actually need half of the crap I was so freely welcoming into my life. That, literally, is what minimalism is all about. It isn’t about getting rid of the things you love. It is about utilizing the things you love even MORE and cutting the rest of the so so out. This gives you space and clarity to enjoy the quality things in your life instead of being overwhelmed by the quantity of things in your life. My hope is that somehow along the way I can inspire you to take that concept and make it translate into your daily life, whatever that means or however that looks for you!
Who is the “minimalist babe” anyway?
>>The ELSHE minimalist babe is of the mind that fewer better things keep her soul full and spirit free. She is an adventure loving, simple living individual who is in relentless pursuit of what sets her soul on fire.
To what do you attribute your success?
>>I think the word “success” means different things to different people. For me, success means constantly working towards being your truest and highest self. Putting yourself out there, knowing there is a chance things may not work out the way you want them to but still taking a risk and getting after it whole heartedly anyway.
Where can consumers buy your products?
>> www.elshejewelry.com I just launched my online shop January 17th and I’m really stoked about it! I plan to add a blog section soon where I can share what’s going on in my world and how I’m feeling as my life and business evolves. For now I am just trying to keep up with working two jobs and dealing with the growing pains of a fresh business. I keep reminding myself that I can’t do everything in a day, but I can be consistent in doing things everyday that will move me a step closer to where I want to be in the future!
What is your favorite jewel?
>> AH! That’s a toughie! I truly do get excited about wearing each and every one of my pieces. It usually just depends on what type of mood I’m in. I do find myself always reaching for the “mudra hand chain” and “free to be choker” though. They’re both pieces I can throw on anytime, any day of the week. Dress them up, dress them down … whatever makes ya heart happy!
What motivates you? ..
>> Being. And living. But actually LIVING. And not just going through the motions. Staying aware of how my actions today will affect my tomorrow but still living in the moment and soaking it all in. Really getting to know and be comfortable with my TRUE self. That .. balanced with surrounding myself with other like minded individuals who motivate me and challenge my thoughts and perspective. Knowing when I need to allow myself to enjoy what I have worked for and when I need to work harder / push myself out of my comfort zone.
Where do you find inspiration on a daily basis?
>> It may sound cheesy, but I have learned to carefully choose who / what brands I follow on Instagram. I figure if it’s something I’m going to spend a considerable amount of time on it may as well be somewhat productive! Most of the pages I follow are yoga, travel, fashion related. They usually get my mind going, inspire me somehow and offer perspective on a variety of things.
What is your favorite quote?
>> Ahh! I LOVE quotes. Seriously so many to pick from … This is one I come back to pretty regularly…
“As long as you think “I am happy”, you are dancing with your unhappiness. Happiness is not in the “happy” but in the “I Am”, the source. Waves of happy change to waves of unhappy so very easily. But the “I Am” never changes; it is the Ocean; this deliciously warm sense of being alive. Know yourself; that is true happiness, prior to time itself.” – Jeff Foster
