Tell me about the fabulous boss babe behind Fig + Willow… Who is Kate?!FullSizeRender

Oh Geez…I am a Florida girl, raised in Anna Maria Island.  I moved to JAX in 2008 and met my amazing Husband here.  We now have a 1 year old son, Cade, and a sweet Border Collie pup.  We live in Neptune Beach and enjoy biking, going to the beach, anything to play outside.

Tell me more about Fig + Willow… the brand, history, meaning behind it?

Fig & Willow has been a dream in the making since I was a little girl.  I have always had a passion for fashion.  I started my career after college in corporate retail,  I worked my way up first as an Assistant Buyer, Planner, then Buyer.  Being a Buyer was great, traveling to NYC and being the first to see new trends was right up my alley.  But, I was still hoping to one day buy for my own Boutique.  After my Son, Cade, was born I knew I needed to make a change.  I quickly started researching and developing Fig & Willow and within a short few months we were on our way to opening the store!  It’s been so amazing and I am so happy I followed my dream!

How did you get started in the fashion world?

Fashion has always been my passion, My dream has always been to own my own boutique.  I am so blessed to be able to make my dream a reality.  My Husband has been my biggest supporter and I couldn’t have done it without him!

What is the best part of your job?

Interacting with my amazing customers!  I love helping someone find the perfect piece for them!

What are your favorite trends for spring/summer 17?

My Favorite trends right now are Florals!  I am loving everything and anything with florals on them.  You also need an off the shoulder top or dress this summer.  Those are my definite must haves this season.

Are there certain pieces and accessories that are always in demand?

The JAX hats are a local favorite, everyone is showing their JAX support which I love!

What current trend makes you cringe?

I really embrace all trends, I just tell people to wear what you feel comfortable and beautiful in.  If you do that, you can’t go wrong.

How can someone who tends to dress really “safe” break out of their comfort zone and dress more creatively?

I say to add one piece that’s a little out there for you if you want to try something new.  Try the off the shoulder top but pair it with your most comfortable tried and true bottoms that you feel great in.  That way you don’t feel out of your comfort zone.

What and who influences you when buying for your store?

I am influenced by my customers, making sure I’m buying the best of the best for them.

What are some of your goals for the future of Fig + Willow?

I completed my biggest goal of opening my own boutique, now I am enjoying being a boutique owner and working for myself!  It was the best move for me and my family

Do you have any upcoming events, sales, new products coming?

Right now we’re just focused on all our new Spring and Summer new arrivals coming in.

When outside of the boutique, what is Kate up to?

I am spending time outside with my 1year old Son, my Husband, and our Border Collie.

Do you have a Jax Local Favorite(s)?!

I am a supporter of all Local Businesses!
